Welcome to My Art Blog!

My name is Beca Reyes and I was a musician for 30 years until March of 2020. We all know what happened around that time so let's just move on. Sometime around 2015, I realized that my voice and hands wouldn't last forever so I started to think seriously about what I was going to do after I retired my music career. I didn't have to think long, as I've wanted to be a painter since I was a small child. I enrolled in an online art atelier, New Masters Academy, and I started to attend live drawing classes at our local Central School here in Bisbee, AZ. 

Then it was today! I still play on occasion. Right now I have a small weekly lunch gig at the Morning Star Cafe in beautiful downtown Palominas, AZ. It's all I can handle now that I'm just starting to play music again and I AM going to retire music sometime in the near-ish future. For the last three years, though, I've been concentrating mostly on my art studies and it has been so rewarding. I've taken on commissions, mostly oil portraits, but also watercolor illustrations for children's books for a few authors I know in town. I also paint solely for my own pleasure, but not as often as I'd like. 

My goal in creating this blog, is to share what I've learned in the last 7 years, even presently. One never really stops learning, especially when one has a passion for art. I'll have photos and blogs to post about certain pieces and projects, and I want to introduce you to my art studio. When my family and I put the studio together, it was done in such a way that it could be a true working studio. I'm in there nearly every day and I always have a project, or three in progress. It is indeed a working studio.
